Suits & Sneakers
1000 sqm, Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa. 2025
Suits & Sneakers’ The Tryst is a purpose-designed collaborative workspace created to support small business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals seeking a considered third space outside of the traditional office or home environment. The venue is designed to accommodate focused work, meetings, collaboration, and hosted events, offering a professional yet relaxed setting that encourages connection and productivity.
The brief called for a space that felt confident but approachable—polished without formality, and structured without rigidity. The intention was to create an environment where individuals and groups could work comfortably, meet with clients, host discussions, and engage with others in a setting that feels welcoming, credible, and well-considered.
The spatial planning is intentionally structured, with clearly defined zones that support different modes of work and interaction. Dedicated meeting areas allow for focused discussions and presentations, while privacy pods provide quieter spaces for calls or individual work. Open collaboration areas encourage informal engagement and shared use, ensuring the space supports both independent work and group activity without visual or functional confusion.
Materiality plays a central role in shaping the character of the interior. A restrained palette of warm neutrals is balanced with darker accents and textured finishes, creating a space that feels grounded and sophisticated. Upholstered seating, carefully selected finishes, and considered acoustic treatments contribute to comfort and usability, while maintaining a clean, contemporary aesthetic. The lighting design reinforces this balance, providing clarity and functionality without overpowering the space.
Brand expression is integrated with subtlety. Rather than overt branding, the design reflects the Suits & Sneakers ethos through tone, material choices, and spatial intent. The environment aligns with a modern business culture that values authenticity, collaboration, and meaningful interaction.
From a practical perspective, durability and longevity were key considerations. Furniture and finishes were selected to withstand regular use by a diverse range of users, while maintaining a refined appearance. The design prioritises function without sacrificing visual coherence, ensuring the space remains adaptable to different working styles and group sizes.
The Tryst is designed as a reliable, thoughtfully planned environment that supports how people work today. It offers structure without stiffness and a setting that encourages people to engage—whether working independently, meeting with others, or participating in shared experiences within the space.
